August is a good time to visit Lodge by The Blue. The weather’s warm, the trees are green, and more than 100 cyclists will race through Breckenridge on August 11.
From Aug. 10-13, the Colorado Classic will be underway. The race goes through Colorado Springs, Breckenridge and Denver. There will be 18 domestic and international teams, featuring both professional men and women cyclists, racing more than 300 miles in multiple, fan-friendly circuits.
Breckenridge never misses the opportunity for a party, so if you want to watch the cyclists pass through on August 11, here some places to be according to GoBreck.com.
Blue River Plaza
The Plaza and its adjoining Riverwalk Center are a central gathering place during major events such as the Colorado Classic. Arrive early to secure your spot along the race route near the finish line.
The Riverwalk Center lawn usually has a big screen set up to show race highlights.
Since it’s a circuit course, you can set up a watch spot in town or at key turns to watch racers go by. There will race route bar parties and critical turns listed later in the summer, so stay tuned for that information.
Since this super steep spot is a popular climb, there’s a good chance it will be part of the route and a great spot to find locals, parties and great viewing.
We’ll check back with GoBreck this summer to bring you more options, including best places to ride and spectate with a picnic lunch and out-of-the way spots where you can watch more privately.
If you’re at Lodge by The Blue for this event, expect beers, bands and, of course, bikes. In addition, August 11 kicks off the Breckenridge International Festival of the Arts, so there’s plenty going on all over Breck.
